The process is quick and easy.

  • On arrival, you should check in at the test centre in 1875 (our food court on campus), entering 1875 by the wheelchair ramp which you access at reception in the main academic building. Please don't arrive more than 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  • A testing team member will greet you and take you to the registration point, where you will complete the registration process, receive a test kit with a unique bar code, and be shown how to conduct your test.
  • You will be taken to a booth, where you will self-administer your test in private, with help on hand if you need it.
  • The test involves applying a swab to the back of the throat and to the nose. It’s simple and quick.
  • You will not wait to receive your results. Instead, you will receive a message with your results by text. For data protection reasons, the University will not have your test results.
  • If you receive a positive result from your lateral flow test, you will need to self-isolate in accordance with current government guidance. You will also be asked to complete a PCR test (see FAQs for information on PCR tests), and members of your household will need to self-isolate for 10 days from the date of your test. If you are a QMU student, you will also need to tell Security (0131 474 0000 ext 2222) plus Accommodation (0131 474 0000 x 4902) if you live on campus, and contact the School Office.
  • If your PCR test is negative, you can go about your life as usual, while continuing to adhere to Scottish Government coronavirus restrictions and advice.
  • If your PCR test provides a positive result, you will need to complete your period of self-isolation (10 days from your lateral flow test result). We will support you during your period of self-isolation.
