Higher National Certificates (HNCs) – known at some colleges as HND year 1 - are one year (full time) vocational based courses which focus on ‘learning by doing’ and can lead straight to a career, or act as a stepping stone in order to gain entry into the degree of your choice.

HNC/Ds are available in a wide range of subject areas. In fact, whatever you are interested in, you will probably be able to find an HNC to cater for your needs.

Where your HN qualification is not considered suitable for advanced entry, we may still be able to consider you for first year entry. It’s a good idea to check with admissions@qmu.ac.uk before starting your HNC.

We have formal agreements with the colleges listed below. If you are attending a college not listed here, that’s fine too.  We will consider applications from students studying at any Scottish college.  The lists below will give you an indication of which HNC will be suitable for entry to our degrees, but if you have any questions please contact admissions@qmu.ac.uk
